Why Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a venerable Japanese hands-on rejuvenatingtreatment which helps relieve back, shoulder and neck
pain and stiffness. Shiatsu is particularly effective for
stress management, migraines, insomnia, asthma,
arthritis, digestive disorders, menstrual problems and
pregnancy discomfort. Shiatsu literally means ‘finger
pressure’ but its application also involves palming,
stretching and mobilising the body.
Shiatsu is performed through a single layer of clothing with the practitioner using her fingers, thumbs, knees
and feet to apply the correct pressure
Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing and yet invigorating therapy
which leaves the receiver with a feeling of tranquility and
well-being.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?
The receiver remains on floor level, either lying down
on his/her front, back, side or sometimes in a sitting up
position. The practitioner will apply pressure at different
levels to correct any energy imbalance.
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?
Although you can come for a ‘one off ' relaxing general
massage, it is recommended that those coming for
treatment for a specific condition or to maintain good
health, have a mimimum of six sessions (depending on
the condition). Shiatsu has a cumulative effect: thus
continuity followed by a periodical 'tune-up' is vital.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE SESSION?At the end of a session, the receiver will feel very
relaxed yet invigorated, with an increased ‘get up and
go’ sensation. Occasionally there could be a 'healing
reaction' which is due to the expulsion of toxins by
the body. However, this is short-lived.
