TAI-CHI LONG FORM originally taught by Master Tang Liang Tia of Bangkok
TAI-CHI FOR STRESS MANAGEMENT AND RELAXATIONTai-chi is a subtle and powerful awareness discipline, a tool to become more in touch with yourself. It is a way of allowing yourself to function naturally and smoothly, uncluttered with expectation, hopes, fears and other fantasies that interfere with our natural flow and prevent you from being and enjoying the now.
When we allow stress to build up over a prolonged period of time, this becomes harmful to body and mind. We may develop symptoms such as muscular aches, pain, and tension, headaches, high blood pressure, anxiety and panic attacks, coronary heart disease, gastric ulcers, etc...
I teach clients how to balance their stress using Tai-chi, meditation and Qi Gong in small groups or individually. There are 88 movements in this ' Long form' divided into 3 parts . For beginners I focus on part 1 where I teach 15 movements only until mastery is obtained before starting part 2.
BENEFITS OF TAI-CHI
- it relaxes and tonifies muscles
- it relieves nervous tension
- it allows more oxygen to be better absorbed, so our tissues are better nourished and the heart works less hard
- it steadies our heart rate/pulse rate/glandular activity
- because of the gentle massage of internal organs ( through the movements and rhythmical breathing) it aids our digestion.
- Tai Chi and Qi Gong practice have now been recognised in northern and western Europe as an excellent work- out for the brain thus preventing or delaying the possible onset of Alzheimer's disease. Regular sessions of Qi Gong are routinely organised in hospitals and old people’s home in France, Germany and Holland. Better start early and have prevention in mind rather than be sorry later.
WHAT IS TAI-CHI ?
Tai-chi is a system of physical exercise based on the principles of effortless breathing, rhythmic movement, and weight equilibrium. The special arrangements of movements is collectively called "a form". The form is made up of lots of separate movements which are strung together to produce one continuous sequence lasting for about 20-25 minutes. When performed well, its rhythmic movement reaches such a state of harmony that it can be likened to a form of dancing.
The essence of Tai-chi lies in the maintenance of perfect body balance at all times. The beautiful, controlled and yet free flowing movement have for centuries inspired men and women from all walks of life, people of all ages and all levels of fitness. Vitality, relaxation, tranquillity, enhanced personal creativity and a sense of purpose are just some of the results of regular practice.
WHAT DOES 'TAI-CHI' MEAN ?
The term 'tai-chi' refers not merely to a system of physical exercise. It comes from the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taoism. 'Tao' means 'the way' , 'the path' - a universal concept, implying conscious thought and participation. 'Chi' has been translated as 'vital energy' or as the 'ultimate' - a powerful life-force - while 'tai' simply means 'great' . Tai-chi, then is a way of finding yourself and your own special path through life.
I have trained with Chriss Jarmy and my much esteemed teacher Marie Woodcock .
